green belt
2021
green belt is a community that celebrates local culture, crafts and landscape. It forms an environmentally and emotionally shared community and experiences by having various spaces for communal workshops and exhibitions and artist workspaces. The housing component aims to form an artist community for creativity and crafts. The tenures are a combination of co-op housing and an affordable non-market artist studio that has the potential to participate in the artists’ studio award program to support local artists for cultural equity, and accessibility, and to form affordable, accessible, and safe cultural spaces.
Inspired by the rich and flourishing landscape in the neighbourhood, the design aims to form a green belt that would connect the green path on the east side of the site to the park on the west side. The green belt acts as the main circulation that hugs the community, at the same time forms a natural barrier to the bustling traffic. Two sub-dominant green bridges not only form another layer of landscape experience but also create various sculpture yards and play yards for the community.
